V M Asok Kumar, a seasoned substance abuse and mental health counsellor with an illustrious 30-year career, has been at the forefront of the fight against addiction. His commitment to this cause is exemplified by his role as a gazetted drug rehabilitation officer by Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN). In 1998, he played a crucial role in a ground breaking pilot project by USM utilizing Naltrexone to prevent relapse in heroin addicts.
A passionate in harm reduction programs, V M Asok Kumar promoted the use of Methadone as a substitute for heroin addicts at the National Anti-Drugs District Care Centre in Johor Bahru, Johor. His collaborative efforts with Hospital Permai and Tampoi Rehabilitation Centre (AADK) focused on treating and rehabilitating individuals dealing with drug-induced psychosis, co-occurring disorders (dual diagnosis), and Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) abuse.
After his retirement as the director of National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Ministry of Home Affairs in 2017, V M Asok Kumar, along with his son Rohinish V M A.K. channelled their passion into establishing an affordable private rehabilitation center. This endeavour aimed to provide dedicated support, treatment and rehabilitation for individuals grappling with psychiatric disorders, substance abuse issues, or the complex challenges associated with both.
